Campaigning has gotten out of control. Candidates lose sight of their political duties due to campaigning. Money that is donated to campaigns is poorly tracked and disappears too often. Party Politics play a huge role in this and weed out lesser known, lower budget candidates by overwhelming their "hand-picked" candidate with huge influxes of money while letting the lesser-known, possibly better choice be removed from campaigns solely because of money.
I would suggest that there be a nationwide campaign fund. Donors can give whatever they want, but it is equally distributed between all the candidates on the ballot. This would give every legal candidate the ability to compete and not just be buried by those that have large donors and PAC support.
The majority of candidates also run on campaign promises of helping the planet, going green, ect. But weeks, months after elections, campaign signs are still plastering citizens' yards and ditches. To fix this, all campaign materials must be recyclable and, or biodegradable. All campaign material must be collected and properly disposed of within 2 weeks of the election date and if it is not, the candidate and his or her party will be held financially liable for the cleanup that local communities will have to do.
